Supposedly undersized for the NFL, Brett Gunnels went off to do a stint in the US Army right out of high school. Returning damaged yet stronger and more determined than ever to prove himself, he was picked last in the draft. Mr. Irrelevant, they called him. The last few years as a backup quarterback have given him no opportunity to compete for the starting job. That’s why he has a chip on his shoulder the size of Puget Sound.
Estelle Harris is engaged to a man she doesn’t love, working a job she hates, and fooling everyone including herself in the process. Her love of animals is the only thing that gives her purpose—a love she shares the Lumberjacks’ reclusive quarterback. And then their mutual friendship turns a hot, dark, forbidden corner and there’s no going back.
True love is like football. It’s not always how long you have the ball. It’s what you do when you get it.

I read every book in the series on the lead-up to Time of Possesion and I can’t begin to describe how much I enjoy these books that Jami has written. Though it can be read as a standalone, reading the other books in the series helps to understand the characters a little better. I think that more of a connection can be made with the story if you’ve read the previous books.
Brett is now the starting QB for the Jack’s after Tyler, Estelle’s brother, is injured in a game. Having been the stand-in for so long, nobody has faith in Brett to lead the team to a Super Bowl Championship; including himself. It was endearing to see his confidence start to boost as he became more accustomed to the team and what is expected of him. He blamed himself for every single mistake in each game and still found it in himself to solider-on and try harder to prove he was worthy of the position.
Estelle starts off being engaged in the novel but some serious shiz goes down. She finds herself instantly attracted to Brett after discovering their mutual love for animals. These furry and feathery friends really warm your heart and make you burst out laughing throughout the novel. Once you meet Bongo, you’ll understand why. When Estelle decides to follow her dreams to become a Vet instead of wasting her life away in Finance; can she fit Brett into her plans?
This book was an enjoyable read and I couldn’t put it down. I cannot wait to see who will be the next team member to have their own book in this exciting series.
“I do mean it. With every breath I breathe I mean it. With every beat of my heart I mean it.”
About the Author:
An advocate of happy endings, Jami Davenport writes sexy romantic comedy, sports hero romances, and equestrian fiction. Jami works in IT for her day job and is a former high school business teacher and dressage rider. In her spare time, she maintains her small farm and socializes whenever the opportunity presents itself.
