Welcome to the Point.
There’s a difference between a bad boy and a boy who’s bad . . . meet Shane Baxter.
Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he’s the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there’s a new player in the game, and she’s much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way.
Dovie Pryce knows all about living a hard life and the tough choices that come with it. She’s always tried to be good, tried to help others, and tried not to let the darkness pull her down. But the streets are fighting back, things have gone from bad to worse, and the only person who can help her is the scariest, sexiest, most complicated ex-con The Point has ever produced.
Bax terrifies her, but it doesn’t take Dovie long to realize that some boys are just better when they’re bad.

I’ve been a fan of Jay’s work since the day that Rule was released in the Marked Men series. I was excited and apprehensive to see her release another book that branches into a different topic than her previous novels but of course Jay always blows my mind with her incredible stories. Though there are some similarities in the types of characters that Jay creates, this time we get to meet her latest male specimen and by-gosh will you not be disappointed. The extremely swoon-worthy and completely intriguing Shane ‘Bax’ Baxter is a bad boy!
I’ve read books that classify the leading male as a ‘bad boy’, but Jay has really hit the nail on the head with Bax. He is exceptionally BAD and his life choices are something to question but it definitely makes him that more attractive on paper. Thankfully he is fiction because I’m sure I’d be the first person to run away from a man like him. I applaud Jay and her ability to make me fall in love with the most unlikely of characters. I highlight all my favourite quotes and moments in all of the books I read; if my digital copy was a paperback, the entire thing would be covered in blue highlighter ink from start to finish.
Bax isn’t your average tattoo and piercing covered manwhore; he is a convicted criminal. Upon his release of a five year stint in jail, Bax unexpectedly meets Dovie, the sister of his best friend who he didn’t even know existed. Race has disappeared after stirring up some problems in The Point, finding both Bax and Dovie having to rely on each other to discover what is happening and what caused Bax to be arrested all those years ago. With the story being told in both Bax and Dovie’s POV’s; it is an entertaining, thrilling and intriguing story that is steamy, mysterious and addictive.
I know that when I read a Jay Crownover novel, there is no possible way that I could be disappointed or disheartened by the amazing story she provides her readers. The detail and quality of writing that she produces is just inspiring to me and it is exactly why I created this blog so that I could help share these incredible little bundles of perfection. Better When He’s Bad is an amazing story and was so much more than I expected after being a die-hard Marked Men series fan. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series as we get to officially welcome Race into our lives.
“She makes me want to think that even the bad guy can be a good guy when he needs to be.”
About the Author:
I’m supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I’m an natural redhead even though I haven’t seen my real hair color in years, I’m a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I’ve been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that.
I love to write, love to read and all I’m interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something.
