This is the third Kirsten DeMuzio novel that I have read and I have not been disappointed yet.
This time around, we get to experience the relationship that forms between Ford and Poppy. Personally, I have been extremely excited about this book because of Ford. After meeting him in the previous novels that complement this book, I was invested in knowing how his life would pan-out after the injury that ended his football career. Not only has he become hostile, but he has no goals past tomorrow and doesn’t see a future for himself.
While tending at a bar, Ford does everything he can to look after his mother who has been suffering from cancer for many years. Though one night, he doesn’t expect to see an underage female walk into the bar and order a drink. Little does he know that Poppy has been hired to look after his mother while he is at work.
Poppy is working to become an Oncologist; she’s independent, driven and carefree. When she meets Ford, he does everything he can to push her away and to make her hate him. Then one day, he realises that he wants her in his life and they work together in order for him to become a happier person. From there, their relationship hit a few speed bumps and a huge mountain but inevitably they find each other again.
I love the way that Kirsten writes these stories and the connection that she creates between the leading characters is undeniable. It was fun to catch glimpses of Taryn, Wyatt, Lindsay and Grady again and I am hopeful that there will be another book released for Brooke. You can read this as a standalone but I recommend that you read Safe With You and Just One Reason before you read Ford and Poppy’s novel.
