Review: If I Were You (Inside Out #1) by Lisa Renee Jones

When Sara McMillan finds a stack of journals in a storage unit, she’s shocked and enthralled by the erotic life the writer led. Unable to stop reading, she vicariously lives out dark fantasies through Rebecca, the writer—until the terrifying final entry.

Certain something sinister has happened, Sara sets out to discover the facts, immersing herself in Rebecca’s life. Soon she’s working at the art gallery Rebecca worked at and meeting Rebecca’s friends. Finding herself drawn to two dangerously sexy men, the manager of the gallery and a famed artist, Sara realizes she’s going down the same path Rebecca took.
But with the promise of her dark needs being met by a man with confident good looks and a desire for control, she’s not sure anything else matters. Just the burn for more.

3.5 star review!

**The reason I have given this book a 3.5 star rating is that I had a hard time getting into the story in the beginning, but it captured my attention for the last half of the novel. I also think it may be because of my age that I did not connect with the story instantly, though I know it would be something that my mum would enjoy. I highly recommend it for female readers over the age of 25.**

If I Were You is the first novel in the Inside Out Trilogy. The story revolves around a set of journals that Sara’s friend finds in a storage unit she has purchased. After reading the journals, Sara is determined to find Rebecca, the author of the very erotic and concerning journal entries. She wants to return all of the items back to Rebecca.

After doing a search of Rebecca’s workplace, she finds that Rebecca has gone on an extended vacation and has not returned. Sara then accepts a job at the art gallery, as her concern for Rebecca’s safety continues to grow.

“You need to be rescued. You want to be rescued. You want to be taken care of.”

At the gallery is where Sara meets Chris, an incredibly talented artist. She has admired his work for a long time, and soon discovers that they are both attracted to each other. There are plenty of secrets that Chris harbours; some including the possible involvement of Mark, Sara’s new boss, in Rebecca’s disappearance.

There is a massive cliffhanger at the end of the novel, which made me scream out in frustration. Be prepared and have the sequel ‘Being Me’ ready to read directly after this novel.

“Whatever happens between us stays with us.”
