Review: Afterburn (Afterburn & Aftershock) by Sylvia Day

The realization that Jax still affected me so strongly was a jagged pill to swallow. He’d only been part of my life for five short weeks two years ago. But now he was back. Walking into a deal I’d worked hard to close. And God, he was magnificent. His eyes were a brown so dark they were nearly black. Thickly lashed, they were relentless in their intensity. Had I really thought they were soft and warm? There was nothing soft about Jackson Rutledge. He was a hard and jaded man, cut from a ruthless cloth.

In that moment I understood how badly I wanted to unravel the mystery of Jax. Bad enough that I didn’t mind how much it was going to cost me…

5 star review!

Do I even need to say it? ..I LOVED IT!

I think I may be the biggest Sylvia Day fan-girl out there.. probably the youngest too. She never disappoints with her writing and I am excited to see what she comes up with next. I really need to calm down when I read her books; this one only took me two hours to read. It’s going to be a long wait till November!

Gianna desperately wants to work for Lei Yeung. After going to the interview and deciding that she didn’t get the job, Lei surprises her and offers her a chance to be her protégée. Gia wants to prove herself to that one person who underestimated her all those years ago, Jax.

“There was a man in my life who underestimated me once. You proved people wrong. I just want to do the same.”

One year later and Gia is making great strides with Lei at Savor, Inc. That is until Jax walks back into her life and stirs up all of her business deals. She loved him once and realises that that love never went away. Though he is shaking up her life and making her feel again, Gia doesn’t want to rehash the past and continually pushes him away. I admire Gia’s way a telling it like it is.

“I guess I’m a glutton for punishment.”

I applaud Jax’s persistence to get Gia back. He continually pops up everywhere she goes and tells her how desperately he needs her. Jax tells Gia that he can only give her a temporary relationship when she wants more. There is something he is hiding from her, which I am bursting to find out. He has been keeping tabs on her the whole time they were apart and it is evident that he loves her. Gia is determined to figure him out. I may have swooned over Jax, but my heart still completely belongs to Gideon.

“It was time for me to start making my own rules.”

You can just tell that something drastic is going to happen in Aftershock. I cannot wait to see what Gia unearths on Jax; I just hope that it doesn’t put her in any danger.

“You’re swimming with sharks and acting like you’re on vacation.”
