Review: Rush (Breathless #1) by Maya Banks

Gabe, Jace, and Ash: three of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the country. They’re accustomed to getting anything they want. Anything at all. For Gabe, it’s making one particular fantasy come true with a woman who was forbidden fruit. Now she’s ripe for the picking…

When Gabe Hamilton saw Mia Crestwell walk into the ballroom for his hotel’s grand opening, he knew he was going to hell for what he had planned. After all, Mia is his best friend’s little sister. Except she’s not so little anymore. And Gabe has waited a long time to act on his desires.

Gabe has starred in Mia’s fantasies more than once, ever since she was a teenager with a huge crush on her brother’s best friend. So what if Gabe’s fourteen years older? Mia knows he’s way out of her league, but her attraction has only grown stronger with time. She’s an adult now, and there’s no reason not to act on her most secret desires.

As Gabe pulls her into his provocative world, she realizes there’s a lot she doesn’t know about him or how exacting his demands can be. Their relationship is intense and obsessive, but as they cross the line from secret sexual odyssey to something deeper, their affair runs the risk of being exposed—and vulnerable to a betrayal far more intimate than either expected.

5 star review!

I have read so many of Maya Banks’ novels and the Breathless series are my favourite ones that she has written. I love book series that follow a different character in each book and this is just one of those examples.

“Mia didn’t know it yet, but she was going to be his.”

This book follows the relationship of Gabe Hamiltion and Mia Crestwell. Mia is the little sister of Gabe’s best friend and business partner Jace. For years, he has been attracted to Mia and the feelings are mutual on her behalf as well. While Jace is away on a business trip, Gabe offers Mia a job as his Personal Assistant which will be a cover for his proposed contract to own her, body and soul. This is very Fifty Shades, though not as hardcore!

“The only thing I’m sure of is that I’ve waited entirely too damn long to have you.”

Mia has loved Gabe since she was 16 years old and their new relationship only increases those feelings, though they are also developing in Gabe’s heart as well. On a trip to Paris, Gabe tries everything to deny that he is falling in love with Mia and his actions potentially put her in danger. Through everything, Mia still finds a way to trust him. I felt so bad for Mia and wanted to hit Gabe for being a douche-nozzle and avoiding the inevitable!

“Never had he experienced such emotional devastation. It unhinged him. Made him crazy.”

They hide their relationship from Jace, but eventually shit hits the fan. Mia and Gabe’s relationship hits the brakes and she deserves someone who will fight for her and not give up when love gets too tough. Will Gabe crawl to prove his love for Mia? Are they truly meant to be together?

“She was what was important. Not him. He just hoped he hadn’t realized it too late.”
